Hey hey, I'm Shelby.

๐Ÿ’ผ Product Manager ๐Ÿ“ Washington, DC

Accidental product manager, optimizer, churner, dog mom, wanderer.
Building intuitive products and always iterating.

I'm a product manager at DrFirst, based in Washington, DC. I work on RxInform, the text messages millions of patients get after their doctor writes a prescription, and right now I'm turning that static content into a conversation.

What I obsess over most is why people do what they do. People will select one thing in a survey and do something else completely when they're standing in a busy pharmacy line with their sick kids, just trying to pick up their medication. The gap between those two (ideal actions and real actions) is where I like to work. Usually the answer is small. One of my favorite tests put the doctor's name in an SMS message. That's it. More patients went on to use their prescription savings because of it. (I still think about that one.)

Truthfully, I didn't plan to be a product manager. It's not what I dreamed about as a kid. (My mom banned my dream of being a firefighter. I get it.) I was steered toward a "physically safe" career, so I started in finance, moved into project management where I launched a product and trained hundreds of doctors' offices across the US, then shifted into UX research, and somewhere in the middle of all that I became a product manager. My first product was a prescribing app with an empty-room problem: doctors signed up, saw a blank patient list, and left. We filled that list for them at sign-up using their prescription history, and the app grew from a few hundred users to tens of thousands. Then I went sideways on purpose and took a CSM role, because I wanted to understand the selling side. I owned our largest Fortune 500 accounts, hit 120% of quota in my first five months, and ended my first year with $700k in new sales. After that, I came back to product knowing how things get built, sold, and used.

Experimentation is where I currently thrive. I run the experiment program on my product, and the results make the decisions, even when they disagree with me. I also build with AI constantly, at work and on my own. My side project, eatGLP, is a restaurant guide for people on GLP-1 medications where one AI agent writes the guides and another checks every number before anything ships (no human eyes required, until I'm personally looking up my best order).

Outside of work, churning is my hobby. I've worked 37 bank, credit card, and card offer bonuses so far (tracked below). Every signup bonus is somebody else's behavior experiment, and I'm the test subject who read the fine print.
